As most of you know David Carradine was reported dead yesterday.

As the news sites will remind us of Carradine’s career and the roles that he played, most notably  Bill from Kill Bill.  I will always remember him as Kwai Chang Caine from Kung Fu and Kung Fu: The Legend Continues.

R.I.P. Grasshopper… you will be missed.

Internal Affairs (2002) vs The Departed (2006)

April 24th, 2009

NOTE: Spoilers are contained in this blog

infernalthe_departed1

I finally watched The Departed last night and I would say it was a good remake of the 2002 Hong Kong movie: Internal Affairs which it is based on.

The similarities between the two movies are very apparent. There are many scenes that they pretty did exactly the same… even down to the dialog (after translation of course).

My favorite scene in the original was when the Superintendent Wong Chi Shing (played by Anthony Wong, who plays Bunta in the Hong Kong live action Initial D Movie — I got my anime reference :D ) is pushed off of the top of the hotel after meeting with his informant Chan Wing Yan and landing right next to him.

I preferred the original version of this scene. In the Departed it shows Det. Capt. Oliver Queenan falling and landing right in front of Billy Costiga, where as in Internal Affairs it all you see is Wong land on top of the cab. I personally found this more dramatic and in a way you didn’t see it coming.

There are also other small things that I preferred in the original one… Like the interactions between Chan Wing Yan and Inspector Lau Kin Min, who is the mole in the police department before they discover who each of them truly is.

Gundam 00 Series End…

March 30th, 2009

gundam-00

Gundam 00 ending this week so now I have no new mecha to watch for at least 6 months. However it was announced at the end of show that there is a Gundam 00 OVA in the works and it will be released in 2010 so I have that to look forward to.

I really haven’t said much about Gundam 00 in my post’s… but i will say this:
I really enjoyed the throwbacks to the original Gundam series that was shown in the 2nd season of this series.

Gundam 0 was obviously based off of Gundam RX78-2 and the final Gundam used by Ribbons Almark was an obvious nod to the Gun-Cannon used in the original series.

This is the only time that I have seen such a throwback to the original series.

Dragonball Cheese

December 11th, 2008

Below is the trailer for the new Dragonball movie that is being released by 20th Century Fox next year…  be warned if you click the play button you will make baby Jesus cry.

Now I did watch both the Original Dragonball series as well as Dragonball Z… then there was GT which was a gong show but this takes the cake for crap Dragonball… Although it does look better then the Korean made “Dragonball – The Magic Begins” which I wish I didn’t know existed.
