Sims 3

Sims 3

So I picked up my copy of Sims 3 the other day and I am having issues enjoying it.

In comparison to Sims 2, which I started playing again last month, it is the little things that I don’t like about Sims 3.

Lets go thru the hits and misses;

Hits:

  • Graphics – The graphics are improved and are truly 3D now so thats all good.
  • Traveling – Now we can see your Sim travel from point A to point B.
  • Loading time – It feels as the loading time for the game has improved… I haven’t timed it or anything but it does seem faster.
  • Almost full customization -  All the important things you can customize… from the Sims clothing to the Sims car.

Misses:

  • Time management – When my Sim goes to work or to sleep it seems like it takes forever when I compare it to the Sims 2… Do I really have to sit thru 4 minutes of doing nothing while I wait for my Sim to get off work?
  • Cooking food – Does my Sim really have to put down his mac and cheese after cooking and force me to tell him to eat it?
  • Camera angles – Sometimes the camera angles are horrible… during regular gameplay it is fine as you can adjust it, but in build/buy mode it can be a pain.

Overall I think the game is good… it stays true to the Sims franchise…. Now if they would only make a new Sim City…

GTA IV

May 21st, 2008

So, as I mentioned on my previous post I had finished GTA IV.

GTA IV

Here is my review sandwich where I start with something’s I like, fill the middle with dislikes, and finish off with what I like… It’s a dislike sandwich with likes for bread. :P

First my likes:

  • Graphics – These were expected to have been improved for the next gen systems and I am very pleased… although I wonder what a cell-shaded version of GTA would look like.
  • Homage to the original GTA games – If you look closely enough in the game you will find homage’s to the previous games… examples would be at the mini golf area where you see buildings from previous games, or some of the graffiti on the walls paying tribute to the previous characters.

Now my dislikes:

  • Map Size – felt that the map on this chapter was smaller in comparison to San Andreas. One of the things I found fun to do was just cruise around on the highway between cities in SA but I don’t get that in this chapter.
  • Planes – You can’t fly planes… Sure it’s a small detail but I would have really liked to fly planes into the buildings… oh geez… did I really just type that…

Last part of things I like:

  • Storyline – I really enjoyed the storyline in this one. If you haven’t played the game I’m not going to ruin this part but it is a really good one.
  • GPS – Seriously… I wish this was in SA because it would have made things so much easier in the game. No more getting lost, although I found in the areas where there is a freeway and a roadway underneath the freeway it doesn’t know which one you are on…

So I give GTA IV 8 STD filled hookers out of 10.

NHL Depot

February 15th, 2008

If you are like me (I really hope you are not in many ways) then you really get annoyed when EA games releases an NHL (for PC) game with lackluster jerseys and poor ass goalie masks… well that’s what NHL Depot is for.

NHL Depot is an online community that brings you skins for the actual masks and often better skins for the jerseys. Also if you are an Oilers fan and let’s say you manage to get the Kippersoff, you don’t want him wearing his Flames gear. You can come here and find a new mask that you may like. Or if you want to design it yourself you can get walkthroughs on how to load it and become a contributor yourself.

Oh yeah… remember how the lack luster Oilers uniforms the Edmonton fans were given… well I don’t have to look at them if I don’t want to in the game.

This is one of the many jersey packs that are avalilble for NHL 2008. One of my personal favorites is the white 3rd jersey at the bottom.

With that I’m done for now.

Webcomic Wednesday for Feb. 13th 2008

February 13th, 2008

This week’s webcomic is Ctrl-Alt-Del, I stumbled upon this comic a few years back and it got me hooked right away.

Tim Buckley originally based the characters off of himself and his friend… It has a great storyline and its secondary characters are funny and original. The comic itself is about video games, computers, dealing with stupid people… everything that I can relate to.

Ctrl-Alt-Del brought us the first gamer’s holiday… actually, let me re-phrase that… Ctrl-Alt-Del brought us a gamer’s week of holidays. Winter-een-Mas has been celebrated by me and my friends since its conception. It also more recently brought to us its own religion. If I had to choose between the Church of Scientology and the Church of Gaming, I choose the Church of Gaming.

Ctrl-Alt-Del has spawned the typical T-shirts, comic books, however it is also the first that I know of that has spawned an animated cartoon.

It has become one of my weekly reads and I highly recommend it for the gamey goodness.
