K-on

June 29th, 2009

k-on

K-ON has ended this week and now I don’t have a weekly anime to watch anymore…

K-ON is a story based around a light music club in a school in Japan.  Each of its band members have their own quirks… all typical in most animes.

This is one of those slice of life animes that some people will not really enjoy as there is no plot.  It’s like Lucky Star minus the randomness.  We have the girls going thru there personal struggles while trying to keep the group and the club going.  Throw in a teacher which was in the club when she was a student with their own quirks and you have a series.

I personally enjoyed it because of the soundtrack and the ending song got stuck in my head real early.

I actually finished watching this series a couple months back.

The reason I wanted to watch this anime is because of the AMV hell videos that are out on the web, you can search YouTube or Veoh if you want to see them.

It reminded me alot of Lucky Star as the show was about nothing.  Also the dream sequences are some of the best ones that will make you laugh.  If you like turning off your brain, as I do, then I would reccomend watching this.

Code Geass Review

December 15th, 2008

Code Geass

Code Geass is a story about a high-school student taking on an empire.

Code Geass is set in a futuristic/alternate world.  Japan has been taken over by Britannia and they are treated as third-class citizens.  Lelouch Lamperouge is a student at a local Britannia private school.  He tends to break rules but not get in trouble for doing so.  When he is not at school he is either playing chess for money or is taking care of his blind sister.

However Lelouch has a secret, something that will shock everybody that knows him…

When I watched this series it felt like a cross between Gundam and Deathnote.  This is a military drama anime and when you watch it you see a human chess match between Lelouch and Britannia.  It felt slow in the beginning but after the first two or three episodes I was hooked.

When watching you will see Lelouch try to balance his school life with his extra-curricular activities as well as face his past on more than one occasion.  The following are characters that will be important throughout the series:

  • C.C.: An ally to Lelouch to aid as well as add to his constant struggles.
  • Suzaku:  A childhood friend of Lelouch’s past.
  • Kallen:  A schoolmate of Lelouch’s who also has a secret.
  • Shirley: Another schoolmate who has a crush on Lelouch.

There are probably more important characters to highlight but I found that these four have the most interesting roles in the series… that and both Kallen and Shirley are red-heads which I am sucker for in 2D or 3D.

Initially I had only “acquired” the first season but luckily I found the second season.  Overall it took me about a month to watch the entire series… this would have been shortened if I had given into my urges to just keep watching.

Some people may complain about how the series ended… however I didn’t mind the ending… to me it felt like it could only end that way.

This will most likely be my last post for 2008.  Happy Holidays to all and all the best in 2009.

Lucky Star

July 25th, 2008

I finished watching Lucky Star last weekend.

At first I didn’t know what to make of the anime.  After watching a few episodes I realized that I had to sit back and enjoy because this anime really has no story.  After doing some research I found out that it was based on a comic strip so it made sense that it really had no story.

The series revolves around the 4 main characters.  Most notable is Knota Izumi, who would be considered the Leader of the group.   Also it should be noted that she is voiced by Aya Hirano, who is becoming one of my favorite voice actresses.  She also voiced Haruhi Suzumiya from Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Misa Amane from Deathnote. I only bring this up because at points in the anime you will see Knota Izumi idol Aya Hirano or in otherwords, idol herself. :D

The other main characters are, Miyuki Takara who would be considered the intelegent wealthy girl and the twins: Kagami Hiiragi and Tsukasa Hiiragi who are the two shrine maidens.

Throughout the series they parody other animes… a couple on notable ones are Initial D and of course Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Other things to enjoy are the end credits but I will leave you to find that out if you decide to watch it.

Overall, after a slow start due to me not knowing what to expect I give the series 4 out of 5 “Lucky Stars”
